For anxiety medications there's more than 50. Most of them are members of the benzodiazepine class, and only about a dozen are used commonly. There's probably 30 total that you can get in the US.

For antidepressants there's about 19 in common usage. That however discounts the tricyclics. Hard to say how many there are, because a lot aren't made. I'd say at least ten. It also doesn't count the MAOIs - there's about 13 of them in clinical use, though you do not see them very often.

If you're going to count different formulations (controlled release, transdermal, sublingual etc) you can probably double all those numbers.

Pot can make you feel more paranoid and increased anxiety..for some people...so this might make her feel worse.
Tell her to be honest with her doctor or to call a pharmacy and ask. It's hard to say without knowing what medication she's on.

Despite what most people thing, many strains of weed can actually help a person with anxiety problems. Most Anti-anxiety medications effect the neurotransmitters in the brain associated with seratonin and noraepinephrin. Weed does effects mainly Anandamide, dopamine, and a few others, and this is not a deadly combination, that is not to say that one might have a reaction to the two combined.

As for myself, I smoke weed a lot and I am also on anti-anxiety medication. I've had no problems.

Does her doctor approve? You really ccan't be serious to think that a mix of pot and antianxiety meds is harmless. Look, inside every container of medicine that the pharmacy gets, there is an insert which describes the clinical trials to a pharmacist. You might see this "Potentiation may occur with the effects of alcohol, marijuana etc. Ask your doctor there should be no secrets from a reliable psychiatrist./clinician.

I really doubt anything bad will happen. Pot isn't a very powerful drug and it's not going to affect you after the effects wear off. Like you may feel paranoid while you're high, but that's not going to carry over to your regular life unless that's already an aspect of your personality. Anyway, definitely don't worry about the two things mixing and causing a problem. However, it might be worth it to worry about your friend's problems with anxiety. Don't lecture her about other things because that could be contributing to her anxiety.

Smoking weed can bring on an anxiety attack and could be the cause of her anxiety problem. I am not sure of the dangers of mixing weed with her medicine but there is always the possibility that it could cause her some problems.
